The duty you carry to everyone on your premises

When something happens, the claim turns on what you can show

The moment you open your doors, you carry a duty to keep the public safe, and unlike a back-office obligation, this one gets tested in real time and in front of a crowd. A slip at the poolside, a faulty machine in the gym, a trip on a step: each becomes an insurance claim, a council query, or a licensing question, and each turns on the same thing, a dated, complete record of what you'd done to prevent it and how you responded.

Underneath sit the specifics. Pools run on Pool Safety Operating Procedures (HSG179) and PWTAG water standards, with water tested and emergency procedures trained. Buildings need a current fire risk assessment and fire rounds; kitchens carry food-hygiene duties; events need signed risk assessments before doors open. And for venues, Martyn's Law, the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, brings new preparedness duties for premises expecting 200 or more people, coming into force from around 2027.

None of it is satisfied by having the policy. It's satisfied by being able to show, from current records, that checks ran, staff were briefed, and incidents were handled. Assembling that across pool plant, gym floor, events, seasonal hires and a building open late is the hard part. That's what CalmCompliance makes calm, the record builds as the work happens, ready for the insurer, the council or the licensing team.

What you need to be able to show:

  • Pool safety operating procedures, daily water tests and a trained emergency response
  • A current fire risk assessment, fire rounds and equipment checks
  • A signed risk assessment for every event, acknowledged before doors open
  • Equipment and safety kit inspected on schedule, with certificates on the record
  • Every public-safety incident captured, investigated and closed, ready for a claim
  • Staff and seasonal hires inducted, first-aid current, before their first shift

THE PRESSURES

What matters most in your world.

01

Public-safety incidents

The challenge

A slip at the pool, a faulty machine in the gym, a trip on a step, each needs a dated file for the insurer, the council and your own review, and a thin record is what loses a claim.

How we help

QR codes in key areas let staff log an incident in about a minute, with location, time and photos. The file starts on report and you close it with investigation steps the same day, the insurer and the council get the same dated record.

02

Event and seasonal risk management

The challenge

Events need signed risk assessments before doors open, and seasonal hires join fast and need induction before they work the floor.

How we help

Build assessments from templates and risk sets, send them to the staff running the event, and collect acknowledgements before doors open. Seasonal onboarding runs policies, induction and certs from the first shift, even in peak weeks.

03

Equipment and pool inspection schedules

The challenge

Pool tests, gym-kit checks and fire rounds run on different owners and dates, and paper logs go missing exactly when a claim lands.

How we help

Schedules live in one system, work orders generate on time, and staff complete them on mobile. Asset records, warranties and maintenance history included, sit in the same place, so you export the full picture for the council or insurer without rebuilding files.

WHERE THE PROOF LIVES

Every public-safety duty maps to something you already do

Capture the work once, against the location and the asset, with dates and sign-offs attached, so the proof is assembled, not gathered when a claim or inspection lands.

Free readiness check

Could you prove it tomorrow?

Most teams only find the gaps when someone asks. This finds them first: a readiness score, your biggest gaps, and a plan for each, in about three minutes.
