1. Applicability
Use this procedure where the school employs or hosts anyone under 18 as a worker, work-experience participant or apprentice, or where the school provides, arranges or hosts work-based learning.
The placement or work-based-learning activity covered by this procedure is [placement or activity description] and is scheduled for [placement dates or period].
2. Preparation and organisation
Before the placement or activity starts, the school must prepare and organise it so that it provides a safe introduction to the work environment.
The person coordinating the arrangement is [placement coordinator role or name]. The host workplace or department is [host workplace or department], and the school contact for the participant is [school contact role or name].
The preparation must set out the responsibilities of the school, the host workplace or department, the participant and any other organisation involved: [responsibility arrangements].
3. Workplace arrangements
Before the participant is introduced to the work environment, the school and host workplace or department must identify the work environment and confirm the arrangements for the placement: [workplace arrangements].
Any matters requiring attention before the placement begins must be recorded and addressed through [pre start action route].
4. Introduction, instruction and supervision
The participant must be introduced to the work environment through the arrangements prepared for the placement. The introduction, instruction and supervision arrangements are [introduction instruction and supervision arrangements].
The person responsible for introducing and instructing the participant is [introducing or instructing person]. The person responsible for supervision is [supervisor role or name].
The participant must know who to approach during the placement and how to raise a concern: [participant contact and concern route].
5. Escalation
Any concern about the safety or welfare of the participant, the work environment, the placement arrangements or the adequacy of introduction, instruction or supervision must be raised with [responsible school role] using [escalation route].
Where the concern cannot be resolved through the agreed arrangements, the activity must be paused or otherwise managed in accordance with [local escalation and activity control arrangement].
