This plan is for primary and secondary local-authority-maintained schools and academies in England. It applies within the school's statutory relationships education, relationships and sex education, and health education provision.
Purpose
The purpose of this plan is to ensure that online safety and online harms are addressed through age-appropriate teaching that is relevant to pupils' lives.
Curriculum content
Teaching should include what positive, healthy and respectful online relationships look like.
Teaching should include the effects of pupils' online actions on others.
Teaching should include how to recognise and display respectful behaviour online.
Age-appropriate delivery
Online safety and appropriate behaviour should be addressed in an age-appropriate way that is relevant to the lives of the pupils taught.
The content should be organised within [school curriculum structure] so that it forms part of the relevant statutory relationships and health education provision.
Primary provision
Where this plan is used in a primary school, the online-safety and online-harms content should be taught as part of statutory relationships and health education, using content appropriate to the pupils' age and relevant to their lives.
Secondary provision
Where this plan is used in a secondary school, the online-safety and online-harms content should be taught as part of statutory relationships, sex and health education, using content appropriate to the pupils' age and relevant to their lives.
