Fields in brackets are completed when you adapt this template.
This policy applies, where adopted, to maintained and academy primary and secondary schools in England.
Register-opening period
The register will remain open for [register open minutes] minutes from the start of every session. The same register-opening period will be used consistently for every session, and it must not be longer than 30 minutes.
The stated period must reflect the school's actual sessions. After the register has closed, a pupil who arrives before the end of the session may be recorded as absent where no reason for the lateness is established or the school is not satisfied that the reason should be recorded using an authorised absence code.
Late arrival
The school will actively discourage late arrival and remain alert to patterns of late arrival.
The school will seek an explanation from the parent when a pupil arrives late.
