Fields in brackets are completed when you adapt this template.
This procedure applies only where the school provides or uses power presses for working on cold metal. It does not establish that other school machinery is a power press.
Responsibilities
[responsible role] must arrange the examinations, inspections and tests required by this procedure and ensure that the resulting records are retained in [record location].
Before first use
Before a power press is first put into use, arrange a thorough examination of the power press and its safeguards by a competent person.
Record the examination for the power press identified as [power press identifier], including the examination date, the competent person's identity and the examination outcome.
Periodic examination and testing
After first use, arrange thorough examinations of the power press and its safeguards periodically.
Arrange for a competent person to inspect and test the guards and protection devices at frequent intervals. The competent person and the intervals for [power press identifier] must be identified in [examination testing schedule].
Do not treat a scheduled examination of the power press as a substitute for the inspection and testing of its guards and protection devices.
Records
Keep records of the thorough examinations of the power press and its safeguards, and records of the inspections and tests of the guards and protection devices.
For each record, identify the power press, the examination, inspection or test performed, the date, the competent person where applicable, and the result. Retain the records in [record location].
Use of this procedure
Before arranging work under this procedure, confirm that the equipment is a power press used for working on cold metal. If that condition is not met, this procedure does not apply.
