Fields in brackets are completed when you adapt this template.
This procedure applies to maintained and academy schools in England conducting educational visits, outdoor learning or other off-site activities. The arrangements must reflect the activity, destination, participants and any specialised or early years needs.
Before the activity
Before undertaking [visit name] at [destination], the visit leader must assess the level of first-aid provision needed for the activity, destination and participants.
The visit leader must identify any additional first-aid items that may be necessary for specialised activities. Record the first-aid provision decision and any specialised equipment required in [visit first aid record].
A suitable travelling first-aid kit must be available for the activity.
Minimum travelling first-aid kit
The travelling first-aid kit should contain, as a minimum:
a leaflet giving general advice on first aid;
6 individually wrapped sterile adhesive dressings;
1 large sterile unmedicated dressing;
2 triangular bandages, individually wrapped and preferably sterile;
2 safety pins;
individually wrapped moist cleansing wipes; and
2 pairs of disposable gloves.
Record the travelling-kit contents in [travelling first aid kit record].
Early years arrangements
Where [school name] provides early years education within the scope of the Early Years Foundation Stage, at least one person with a current paediatric first-aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present. That person must accompany children on outings.
The paediatric first-aid certificate must be for a full course consistent with the criteria set out in annex A of the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework.
For early years staff who obtained a level 2 or level 3 qualification on or after 30 June 2016, confirm that the staff member has either a full paediatric first-aid certificate or an emergency paediatric first-aid certificate within 3 months of starting work before counting that staff member in the required level 2 or level 3 staff-to-child ratios.
For an outing involving early years children, record the accompanying paediatric first-aid arrangements in [early years outing record].
