This guidance may be used by [school name] when considering whether additional workplace mental-health support would be beneficial following the employer first-aid needs assessment.
Purpose and status
The consideration is optional. The school should use its employer first-aid needs assessment as the basis for considering appropriate workplace mental-health support; this guidance does not imply that a mental-health first-aid programme is mandatory.
Options to consider
Following the employer first-aid needs assessment, consider whether any of the following would benefit the school: information for managers or employees, training for managers or employees, occupational-health professionals, mental-health-trained first-aiders, or employee support programmes.
Recording the consideration
Record the options considered, the reasons relevant to the employer first-aid needs assessment, and the decision reached. The record should identify whether the school decided to pursue, not pursue, or defer any option.
The decision record should be retained with the school's relevant needs-assessment or wellbeing-planning records.
