School Suspected Gas Leak Emergency Procedure

Use this procedure at a school with a natural-gas or LPG installation when a gas leak is suspected. Site arrangements must reflect the school's actual supply and premises.
Immediate response
If a gas leak is suspected, turn off the supply at [gas supply shutoff location].
For natural gas, immediately phone the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. For LPG, immediately phone [lpg supplier emergency contact].
Evacuation and notification
If in doubt, evacuate the building. Inform the police as well as the National Gas Emergency Service or the LPG supplier.
Restoring the gas supply
Do not turn the gas supply back on until the leak has been dealt with by a competent person.
