This procedure applies where employees travel, work away from the main school site or are otherwise mobile. Provision must reflect the roles, activities and communication risks identified through the school's first-aid needs assessment.
1. Complete the first-aid needs assessment
Use the school's first-aid needs assessment to identify employees who travel regularly, work remotely or work elsewhere, including employees who travel long distances or are continuously mobile.
Record the relevant off-site and lone-working arrangements, the roles involved and the activities undertaken away from the main school site. The assessment should consider the communication risks associated with those arrangements.
2. Determine personal first-aid provision
Use the assessment to determine whether mobile employees should carry a personal first-aid box. Where the assessment identifies a need, provide the personal first-aid box for the relevant employee or role and record the provision in [personal first aid box issue record].
Where the assessment does not identify a need for a personal first-aid box, record the assessment decision and the roles to which it applies in [off site first aid assessment record].
3. Determine communication provision
Use the assessment to determine whether employees should be issued with personal communicators or mobile phones. Record the decision, the relevant employees or roles and any issue arrangements in [communication equipment issue record].
The communication arrangement for each applicable role must state how the employee will contact emergency services: [emergency contact method].
4. Apply the arrangements
Employees covered by the assessment must follow the first-aid and communication arrangements specified for their role and activity when travelling, working remotely or working elsewhere.
The person applying the arrangement must use the current first-aid needs assessment to confirm whether a personal first-aid box, personal communicator or mobile phone is required for the relevant role or activity.
5. Record the provision
Keep the first-aid needs assessment and the associated records for off-site arrangements, personal first-aid boxes and communication equipment at [record location].
