Fields in brackets are completed when you adapt this template.
Use this procedure only where adequate ventilation cannot currently be maintained, interim air cleaning is needed, and remedial works are being arranged. It does not apply where adequate ventilation is maintained or where no remedial need has been identified.
1. Confirm the interim need
Confirm the ventilation position using the relevant assessment: [ventilation assessment reference]. Proceed with interim air cleaning only where adequate ventilation cannot be maintained and there is a planned need for interim support.
Record the remedial-works plan and timescale as [remedial works plan reference]. Air cleaning must not be used as a reason to delay long-term remediation.
2. Use air cleaning as interim support
Where the need has been confirmed, use an air-cleaning unit as an interim measure until the remedial works are undertaken. Record the unit specification and placement as [air cleaner specification and placement].
The air-cleaning unit is interim support only. It must not replace ventilation.
3. Maintain the interim arrangement
Maintain records for the air-cleaning unit while it is being used, including [air cleaner maintenance record].
4. Review against the remedial plan
Review the arrangement against the ventilation assessment and remedial-works plan. The review must show that the air-cleaning unit remains interim support, is not being used as a substitute for ventilation, and is not being used to justify reducing or not remediating poor ventilation in the long term.
Record the review as [interim air cleaning review reference].
5. End the interim arrangement
When the remedial works have been undertaken, review whether interim air cleaning is still required before continuing its use.
