Fields in brackets are completed when you adapt this template.
This procedure is for maintained and academy primary and secondary schools in England. Each school should adapt the communication methods and contact details to its actual arrangements and sites.
1. Information to communicate
Communicate the school's first-aid arrangements to employees, pupils, contractors, visitors and others as appropriate. The information should be clear and easy to understand.
The communication should include the first-aid policy and the locations of first-aid equipment and facilities. Insert the relevant local details: [first aid policy location], [first aid equipment locations] and [first aid facility locations].
Provide the names or contact details for first-aiders or the appointed person, as applicable to the school's arrangements: [first aider or appointed person contacts].
Explain how to contact a first-aider or appointed person urgently when the need arises. Record the school's urgent contact arrangement here: [urgent first aid contact arrangement].
2. People and situations covered
Share the information with employees and pupils and, as appropriate, with contractors, visitors and others who use or attend the school.
Include first-aid information in induction training for new employees so that they are made aware of the school's first-aid arrangements.
3. Notices and other communication methods
Use a clear and easy-to-understand communication method. Displaying first-aid notices is a simple method of keeping employees informed. A prominent first-aid notice at each site is recommended by HSE. Insert the local notice locations here: [first aid notice locations].
Schools may also develop procedures for informing staff in consultation with employees or safety representatives. Record the local communication methods here: [first aid communication methods].
4. Monitoring and reviewing first-aid needs
Tell employees, pupils and other relevant people about the school's procedures for monitoring and reviewing first-aid needs. Insert the school's monitoring and review arrangements here: [first aid needs monitoring and review arrangements].
When the school's first-aid arrangements or sites change, update the communicated policy, locations, contacts, urgent contact arrangements and monitoring and review information so that the information remains clear and easy to understand.
