This guidance applies where [school name] chooses to use records or labels as management tools for monitoring portable electrical equipment maintenance. These controls are optional management tools in the context covered by this guidance.
Using records and labels
The school may keep records of portable-equipment inspections and tests, label equipment that has been inspected or tested, or use both approaches. The school may use these records and labels to monitor and review whether its maintenance scheme is effective and to demonstrate that a scheme exists.
Information that may be maintained
Where the school chooses to use these controls, it may maintain inspection and test logs, asset identifiers or labels, and defect and repair records. The school may also retain maintenance information in the form it considers suitable for monitoring the scheme.
Reviewing the maintenance scheme
The school may review the records, labels and maintenance information it uses to assess whether the portable-equipment maintenance scheme remains effective. The review may include consideration of inspection and test entries, equipment identifiers or labels where used, and recorded defects and repairs.
Status of records and labels
The use of records or labels described in this guidance is not presented as a legal requirement. A school may choose whether to use these administrative controls for monitoring and reviewing its portable-equipment maintenance scheme.
