Display Energy Certificate and Advisory Report
This guidance applies conditionally where a school or academy occupies a public-authority building larger than 250 m² that is frequently visited by the public.
When the requirement applies
A building occupied by a public authority must have a Display Energy Certificate (DEC) and advisory report where it is larger than 250 m² and frequently visited by the public. This includes most schools and academies.
For [building name], determine whether the building is occupied by a public authority, whether its floor area is larger than 250 m², and whether it is frequently visited by the public.
Documents and records
Where the qualifying conditions apply, retain the current Display Energy Certificate and advisory report for [building name].
Retain records showing the building floor area, public-authority occupation, frequent public access, and the relevant display or renewal history.
Legal basis
The requirement is stated to arise from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007.
