School Medical and First-Aid Accommodation Inspection Checklist

Inspect the room or rooms designated for medical examination, treatment, short-term care of sick or injured pupils, and first aid.

Identify whether the school caters for pupils with complex medical or care needs. If it does, complete the additional medical accommodation check below.

Read the current first aid needs assessment and identify the room or rooms provided in accordance with its findings.

Inspect the room and its access arrangements. Confirm that it is readily available for medical examination, treatment, short-term care, or first aid when needed.

Inspect the room and confirm that it is appropriate for medical examination and treatment of pupils and for the short-term care of sick or injured pupils.

Inspect the room and confirm that it includes a washbasin.

Inspect the location and confirm that the medical accommodation is near to a toilet.

Inspect the room's current use and confirm that it is not used for teaching.

Inspect the first-aid provision and confirm that a suitable first-aid room or rooms are provided in accordance with the findings of the first aid needs assessment.

If the school caters for pupils with complex medical or care needs, inspect the additional medical accommodation and confirm that it caters for those needs.

Record the rooms inspected, any unavailable or unsuitable provision, and any follow-up action required.
