Scope
This procedure applies where a pupil remains on the school roll while in criminal-justice custody. It covers communication with the pupil’s Youth Offending Team worker about educational needs, progress, return to school and resettlement.
Procedure
While the pupil is in custody and remains on the school roll, the school should communicate with the pupil’s Youth Offending Team worker where appropriate.
Communication should discuss the pupil’s educational needs, progress and return to school upon release where appropriate.
The school should maintain contact with the Youth Offending Team throughout the sentence where appropriate, because education supports the pupil’s resettlement.
Return to school and resettlement
Where a return to school is appropriate, communication with the Youth Offending Team worker should include planning for the pupil’s return and support for resettlement.
