Applicability
This procedure applies conditionally to eligible secondary maintained schools and academies in England that receive or retain Year 6 attendance transition data. It does not apply to primary schools or independent schools. The file-management provisions apply only where earlier versions have been saved or retained.
Procedure
1. Identify the latest available file
The [attendance lead role] should identify and use the latest available Year 6 attendance transition file for transition planning.
2. Review attendance information
Review the available file to identify pupils with higher absence rates who may need extra support and pupils at risk of persistent absence who might need monitoring.
3. Understand barriers
Where a pupil may need additional support or monitoring, work with the relevant feeder school, local authority and family to understand barriers to attendance.
4. Plan transition support
Use the information gathered to plan targeted transition support and interventions, reflecting the individual pupil and the available evidence.
5. Manage superseded files
If earlier March or June versions of the Year 6 transition file have been saved or retained, delete those earlier versions when the latest replacement file is available and use the latest version. Earlier versions may include pupils who did not enrol.
