To set out the procedure for notifying a pupil’s social worker or youth offending team worker about unexplained absences and for ensuring relevant officers are informed when the pupil’s name is to be deleted from the school register.

Purpose and applicability

This procedure applies where a pupil has a social worker and/or youth offending team worker and an unexplained absence or register-deletion circumstance arises.

Unexplained absence

Where a pupil with a social worker and/or youth offending team worker has an unexplained absence from school, the school informs the pupil’s social worker and/or youth offending team worker.

Deletion from the school register

Where a pupil’s name is to be deleted from the school register, the relevant children missing education officer or the school’s point of contact in the School Attendance Support Team informs the pupil’s social worker and/or youth offending team worker.
