Applicability
Use this procedure where possible reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) may be present in school roofs, floors or walls. It does not assume that RAAC is present at the school.
Procedure
1. Record the concern
Record the concern that RAAC may be present, including the relevant building area and whether the concern relates to a roof, floor or wall.
2. Use visual identification guidance
Refer to the Department for Education identification guidance and use visual inspection to help identify whether RAAC may be present.
3. Obtain professional confirmation
Where RAAC may be present, employ a suitably qualified building professional, such as [qualified building professional role], to confirm whether RAAC is present.
4. Record the outcome
Record the outcome of the visual identification activity and the confirmation provided by the suitably qualified building professional. Record whether RAAC was confirmed, not identified, or remains unestablished.
5. Contact the Department for Education
Contact the Department for Education customer help portal if RAAC is confirmed on the school estate by a suitably qualified building professional or if advice about RAAC is needed: https://customerhelpportal.education.gov.uk/
Record the communication with the customer help portal and any related case reference or advice received.
