First-aid arrangements and communications procedure

To explain how first-aid arrangements are communicated clearly to employees, pupils, contractors, visitors and others as appropriate, including the locations of equipment and facilities, the first-aiders or appointed person, urgent contact arrangements, monitoring and review arrangements, and first-aid information provided during induction.

Application

This procedure applies to maintained and academy primary and secondary schools in England. Communication should be adapted to the school's sites, population, first-aid needs and available first-aid personnel.

Information to communicate

Employees, pupils, contractors, visitors and others as appropriate should receive clear and easy-to-understand information about the school's first-aid arrangements.

The information should include the first-aid policy, the location of first-aid equipment at [first aid equipment locations], the location of first-aid facilities at [first aid facilities locations], and the first-aiders or appointed person identified by [first aid contact role].

The current first-aid policy is available at [first aid policy location].

Urgent contact arrangements

Employees, pupils, contractors, visitors and others as appropriate should know how to contact a first-aider or appointed person urgently when the need arises. The urgent contact arrangement is [urgent first aid contact arrangement].

Notices and other communications

First-aid notices should be displayed in a prominent position at each site. At each site, the notice location is [site first aid notice location].

The school may also use other clear communications for employees, pupils, contractors and visitors as appropriate, including arrangements developed in consultation with employees or safety representatives.

Induction

First-aid information should be included during induction so that new employees are made aware of the school's first-aid arrangements.

Monitoring and review information

Employees, pupils, contractors, visitors and others as appropriate should be made aware of the procedures for monitoring and reviewing the school's first-aid needs. Information about those procedures is provided through [first aid monitoring review method].
